Are you baking cookies this weekend? My column in this week’s Cordova Times offers up two takes on a classic spritz cookie, plus some musings on shortbread and its origins.

I joke that I live in a house with a Cookie Monster. He loves something a little bit sweet and crunchy to eat with coffee, and coffee happens twice a day. There are endless cookie recipes to choose from, but the Cookie Monster has certain requirements for the elusive coffee cookie: crunchy, simple, not too sweet. Over in the world of print, I have a new essay in issue two of Wildheart Magazine. Wildheart is a magazine featuring Alaska stories by Alaskan women. It’s beautifully put together.

We have just a week before we leave Alaska for a little Christmas break in California. It feels like winter just finally hit here, the snow is sticking, and tonight the community will be out in force for “Moonlight Madness.” Normally Cordova shops aren’t open at night but they make exceptions the Friday evenings before Christmas. It’s festive, and main street is lit in holiday lights. I will be looking for small Alaska treasures to take with me and share with my hosts. I hope you are enjoying some peace and beautiful weather in preparation for your holiday.
